projects are starting!

ceramics students are throwing a "perfect" cylinder.  
with that, they will make a plaster mold and 
complete a series of mugs 
through a slip casting process!
for their first handbuilding project, 
ceramics kids have been given the task 
to make a chip & dip set.  their
 design is to show their personality and individual taste.


introduction to 3d students are throwing 
a cylinder on the potter's wheel and 
using the slab technique to build a cubed box.
each piece with have a creative surface decoration!

after studying the sculptures of claes oldenburg (large, public monuments, "spoonbridge and cherry") and the ceramic works of marilyn levine (totally realistic interpretations of leather objects) the students in introduction to 3d art "started cookin' "!

based on their favorite food item, they constructed a sculpture from clay, bisque-fired it, and added color with acrylic paints.  to convince viewers of its realistic qualities, found objects were added!


Tuesday, January 13

final tests are coming!

introduction to 3d classes will have 2 parts to their final:
100 points= written
100 points= cleaning
remember, those with the most unexcused absences and tardies will earn the toughest jobs.

for the written test i strongly encourage you to review your notes 
(vocabulary and artists) based on the following:
food sculpture
plastic bottle sculpture
color theory
glazing
handbuilding processes

use the quizlet links (found on the left hand side)

a huge WOO HOO to...

the recipients of minnesota scholastic art awards:
gretchen m. - a silver key for her wheel thrown ceramic "fruit bowls"
jeff p. - 4 awards! a silver key for his "sketchbook", a merit award for his "seasoned collage", a merit award for his "self-portrait", and a merit award for his portfolio submission of ten artworks

connor m. - a merit award for his portfolio submission of ten artworks

congrats to jeff p.!  he is kennedy's art department's golden torch recipient for the month of january!


mr. pakan, says, "jeff is inventive, dedicated and has an outstanding eye for detail and composition. he is a superb student and artist!

contest...

peace, diversity and bloomington...design a logo for a tee-shirt!  the logo may have a maximum of 3 colors and should reflect diversity day.  turn your entry in to mrs. willrett in the counseling office by february 20th.  winner receives recognition, bragging rights, and a chipotle burrito.

scholastics art competition...

i have just entered ten artworks and two portfolios to represent kennedy high school at the scholastic art competition.  the entries will be juried and those that receive silver key and gold key recognition will be displayed at the minneapolis college of art and design. the gold key winners will then go onto the national competition.
